Deflector Nozzle Description

The Deflector nozzle consists of a circular orifice, through which the liquid jet passes to impinge on a deflecting surface, resulting in a wide angle fan spray with a narrow rectangular spray pattern. Rated at 1 bar pressure, these nozzles produce a relatively even distribution with peaks at the extremities.

Features

Reduced drift potential when operated at rated pressure

Precision moulded in polyacetal, a highly stable polymeric material with outstanding wear characteristics

High level of quality control throughout manufacturing process ensures consistent compliance with specification

Colour coded (in accordance with ISO/DIS 10625) for quick indentification of flow rate

Compatible with most standard nozzle caps

BCPC (British Crop Protection Council) coded to assist with correct nozzle selection

Applications

The Deflector nozzle is widely used with knapsack sprayers for single nozzle application of herbicides. The low operating pressure of 1 bar produces coarse droplets which are less prone to drift, reducing off-target contamination. The smaller sizes are partiuclarly suitable for VLV (very low volume) applications of herbicides where the reduced application volumes can provide substantial cost savings in terms of water cartage and application time. For information on VLV application, contact the chemical manufacturer.

Installation

Deflector nozzles should be attached to the spray lance so that the spray is directed downwards onto the target. To ensure the desired swath width is achieved, the nozzle must be maintained at a constant height as indicated in the Deflector application rates in metric and imperial. A suitable chain or weighted cord attached to the lance behind the nozzle, and adjusted in length to just contact the target with the nozzle at the appropriate height, will help in maintianing a constant height when spraying. Ensure that any pre-set pressure regulator fitted to the knapsack sprayer or hand lance is set for low pressure operation before commencing to spray. Read the equipment manufacturer's operating manual.
